Product Description

Z-A-M steel has excellent corrosion resistance, heat resistance, and machinability. It is a highly corrosion-resistant metal-coated steel. At the same time, the alloy layer composed of zinc, aluminum, magnesium, and silicon can improve the steel's scratch and chemical resistance. MESCO STEEL Group provides professional customized services for applications in construction, home appliances, automobile manufacturing, the chemical industry, etc., supplying Z-A-M coil, sheet, and strip materials, and deep processing such as forming, bending, punching, etc..

Z-A-M Steel Specification

MESCO Group has a galvalume and Z A M coating steel production line with an average monthly output of 10,000 tons, producing full-size alloy-coated steel with a delivery time of 5-45 days. If you are interested in coated steel, you can contact us to request a sample!

MESCO is a coated steel manufacturer, supplying steel raw materials and finished products to various industries, our main coated products include  GI, PPGI, GL, PPGL, tin, aluminum, chrome, organically, pvc, Z A M, zinc phosphate steel, etc.  all kinds of metal roofing plates, stainless steel plates, etc. We have exported metal coating steel and organic-coating steel to the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Singapore, Chile, Colombia, Libya, Azerbaijan, Spain and 200 other countries.
Z a M (Zinc-Aluminum-Magnesium) Coated Steel

Z A M Steel vs. Galvalume Steel

Feature Z-A-M Steel Galvalume Steel
Composition Zinc, Aluminum, and Magnesium 55% aluminum, 43.4% zinc, and 1.6% silicon
Corrosion Resistance Superior due to the inclusion of magnesium Very good, but slightly less than Z AM
Coating Thickness Typically thinner due to higher efficiency Generally thicker for similar performance
Durability High, with excellent edge protection High, but edges may be more susceptible to corrosion
Surface Appearance Smooth and shiny Smooth and slightly spangled
Cost Generally higher due to advanced properties Generally lower compared to Z AM
Applications Roofing, siding, automotive, appliances Roofing, siding, construction
Environmental Impact Uses less zinc, potentially more eco-friendly Standard zinc-aluminum coating
Paint Adhesion Excellent Very good
Heat Resistance Good Good

Both materials offer excellent performance in terms of durability and corrosion resistance, but Z AM steel tends to provide enhanced protection, especially at the edges, due to its unique composition. Galvalume steel, on the other hand, is widely used and cost-effective, making it a popular choice for many applications.

Standards

EN 10346: Specifies the technical delivery conditions for continuously hot-dip coated steel flat products, including zinc-aluminum-magnesium coatings.

JIS G 3323: Specifies the requirements for hot-dip zinc-aluminum-magnesium alloy-coated steel sheets and coils.

ASTM A1046/A1046M: This specification covers the requirements for steel sheet, zinc-aluminum-magnesium alloy-coated by the hot-dip process.

Z a M (Zinc-Aluminum-Magnesium) Coated Steel
Z A M Steel Coating and Applications

Z A M steel is a high-strength steel substrate coated with an alloy layer of three metals, Zn, Al, and Mg. Zn improves the corrosion resistance of the steel, Al provides weathering and oxidation resistance, and Mg enhances the corrosion resistance of the steel. The higher the aluminum and magnesium content, the better the corrosion resistance.

Common Coating Types

  • Zn +1.5%Al+1.5%Mg.
  • Zn +2%Al+2%Mg.
  • Zn +11%Al+3%Mg. (Coating used by Wanzhi Z A M)

Application

  • Automobile exterior panels, home appliance exterior panels, etc.
  • Color-coated substrates, interior panels for home appliances, etc.
  • Soundproof board, photovoltaic support, outdoor screen/fence, etc.

Z A M Coated Steel Benefits

  • Corrosion resistance: Z A M coating can make the steel in the humidity, salt spray, and other environments to maintain the performance of stability, and can resist the erosion of harsh weather conditions.
  • Self-repairing properties: Z A M-coated steel maintains high corrosion resistance even in scratched or damaged areas.
  • Weathering: Keeps steel from deforming in high-temperature environments.
  • Durable: Zinc-aluminum-magnesium-coated steel is harder and has good wear resistance.
  • Machinability: It can be cold-worked, cut, bent, stamped, and used for other in-depth processing.

Comparison of GI, GL Z A M Steels

GI steel, GL steel, and Z AM steel are three common metal-coated steels and Wanzhi Group's popular coated steel materials, which are widely used in construction, industry, transportation, and other fields. However, the coating compositions of these three materials are different, so there are differences in price, performance, and application.

  • Cost: galvanized has the lowest processing cost, galvalume has a relatively high cost, and Zinc-Aluminum-Magnesium has the highest cost.
  • Hardness: GI hardness is 55Hv-65Hv, GL hardness is 100Hv-110Hv, and Z AM hardness is 140Hv-160Hv.
  • Corrosion resistance: Z AM is more corrosion resistant than GL and GI steel.
  • Uses: galvanized steel is mainly used in general indoor and outdoor environments, Galvalume steel is suitable for use in humid and high-temperature environments, and Zinc-Aluminum-Magnesium steel is suitable for use in marine and chemical environments.

ZInc Aluminium Magnesium Alloy Coated Steel Coil
Zinc Aluminum Magnesium coating is through the role of aluminum and magnesium, so that hot dip plating layer has excellent ANTI-corrosion resistance, wear resistance and machinability, can be widely used in various fields, especially for photovoltaic bracket and husbandry. Zn-al-mg-coated steel plate allows customers using GI products to directly replace ZN-AL-MG-coated coating steel plate without changing the existing processing, assembly, painting and other processes.
