Weathering steel,i.e. atmospheric corrosion-resistant steel,
is a low-alloy steel series between ordinary steel and stainless steel.
Weathering steel is made of ordinary carbon steel with a small amount of copper, nickel and other corrosion-resistant elements.
It has the characteristics of high-quality steel, such as strength, toughness, plastic extension, forming, welding and cutting, abrasion, high temperature and fatigue resistance;
The weather resistance is 2~8 times as high as that of ordinary carbon steel,
and the coating property is 1.5~10 times as high as that of ordinary carbon steel.
It refers to low alloy structural steel with protective rust layer and atmospheric corrosion resistance,
which can be used to manufacture steel structures such as vehicles, bridges, towers, containers, etc.
Compared with ordinary carbon steel, weathering steel has better corrosion resistance in the atmosphere.
Compared with stainless steel, weathering steel only contains trace alloy elements, such as phosphorus, copper, chromium, nickel, molybdenum, niobium, vanadium, titanium, etc.
the total amount of alloy elements only accounts for a few percent, unlike stainless steel, which accounts for more than ten percent, so the price is relatively low.
Weathering steel is also widely used and decorated in China, as shown in these two pictures
The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg National Pavilion in the 2010 WorldExpo in Shanghai has a rusty appearance because the building material is a special steel called weathering steel. Weathering steel, also known as Corton steel, is special in that when exposed to the natural environment, the steel surface will automatically form a corrosion-resistant protective layer through the action of air, rain, etc., without painting protection, and the service life of the material is more than 80 years.
After the Sino French center of Tongji University used weathering steel as the architectural appearance in 2004, the Luxembourg Pavilion was used again. After completion, the Luxembourg Pavilion will present the natural primary color of weathering steel, and the interior wall of the pavilion will be composed of fir. The new weather resistant steel and natural fir create a sculptural castle, which is not only full of artistic sense, but also familiar with the contemporary concept of environmental protection and Sustainability
