MESCO's heavy coated aluminized steel conforms to ASTM A463/A463M Type 1 (Coating Weight: Min.240g/M2) for application in cutting-edge insulation systems. Our aluminized steel is made through a hot-dip coating process - with Al-Si alloy coating on both sides - to ensure the benefits of both Aluminum and Stainless steel.
Aluminized steel has Aluminum's corrosion resistance and Stainless steel's physical strength in combination in a 500ºC~600ºC high oxidation environment, it exhibits superior corrosion resistance akin to Stainless Steel jacketing, and has better mechanical strength than Aluminum alone.
PE (Polyester Resin) coated aluminized steel is Aluminized steel coated with PE, which follows ASTM A 463/A 463M Type 1 specifications. Al-Si alloy hot dip coated on both sides (89 micron), weight Min. 240g/M2, then coated with 17 micron polyester resin (5 microns for the primer, 12 microns for the top). The aluminized steel backing is coated with a 5~17 micron polyester resin coating in a different color.
Our manufacturing system can produce PE resin coated aluminized steel in a single assembly process.

Comparison Table - Aluminized steel cladding Type 1 vs Type 2 (ASTM A463/463M)
Classicfication | Aluminized Steel Type-1 | Aluminized Steel Type-2
Base Metal | Same Substrate
Coating designation | Al(89-95%)-Silicon(5-11%)alloy | Commercially Pure Aluminium
Containing silicon is to promote better adherance with base metal.In case of Type2.it may possible to occurred peel off phenomenon |
Impurities disrupt the symmetry of thealuminium so that the mlecules cannot slide past each other so easily which makes the metal more brittle and less likely to bend |
|||||
Coating bath temp | 1250 F (=677ºC)
Main application | Optimized for hot, cold & cryogenic insulation cladding material, particularly in hazardous(weatherproofing) area. |

Reference | Recently most of EPCCs applied this heavy coated Aluminized steel with PE coated type for their new&extension projects, especially cryogenic plant projects etc |
Monopolized mill production through the world.Not easy to sourcing with higher price schedule than Type-1 Low workability in fabrication stage |
